“Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.”

Born in the city of Rourkela with its beautiful hilly landscape, my growing up years there were enriching as I imbibed values that stood me in good stead for the rest of my life.
Those days were challenging and exciting at the same time. The heady experiences of childhood and the school and college days were part of my efforts to stand on my own feet. As I left Rourkela for higher education, I took with me my earliest memories of friendship and sense of belonging.

After I completed my B.Tech and MBA, which was a journey marked with struggle, determination and patience, I believe July 1, 2004 was one of the most important days in my life as I entered 11th floor of Tata Centre podium to collect my appointment letter from metaljunction.com. Apart from being a very happy and satisfying day for me and my family, I believe it has been a turning point in my life. I had to be patient and have confidence in myself in order to land this job. They say that nothing succeeds like success, and perhaps this one event in my life really bears it out. During my MBA days, dirty politics was the order of the day and it took a lot of resilience on my part to survive it.

Having said all this, I must admit that I have been lucky to have got the chance to work in a company like mjunction. Since it was my first job, I was also lucky to have had wonderful colleagues and an excellent work environment, which I feel is very important for anyone to give his best.

One of my most memorable work life experiences has been the two-month in-plant training all over India as a management trainee. Along with four other management trainees, we visited Bhilai, Jamshedpur, Rourkela, Durgapur, Delhi and Kanpur as part of our training. We came to know each other very closely over this two-month period. After the training sessions during the day, we relaxed in the evenings at the local parks and restaurants. Those were indeed some of the most tension-free times of my life, which made all the struggle in my life worth it.

It has been almost four years and 7 months that I have been working here and I am proud to be a member of the mj family. My experience as a Market Analyst in the Steel BU has been exciting over the years and everyday has been filled with new experiences, new learnings, learnings from mistakes, discussions and interactions.

Today, I can say my base is very strong in the field of research and analysis in various sectors covering metals, minerals, steel and scrap, and this would not have been possible without the able guidance of my senior colleagues, the challenging environment I have been working in, the trainings at XLRI-Jamshedpur, SNTI-Jamshedpur, 9th Floor Tata Centre Auditorium, the conferences and seminars that I attended and of course the cooperation of my team members.
My writing about mjunction would be incomplete without mentioning the parties, picnics, sports, the Fun Team events, the monthly cake cutting ceremony and our daily lunch get-togethers at the Tata Centre second floor canteen. All this really adds up to this wonderful experience called mjunction.

My experience at mjunction and outside it has taught me that it is only determination, courage, dedication and above all honesty that pay in the long run. There can be no short cuts to success and one needs to continuously learn from ones mistakes. MJ has taught me how to work under pressure, how to work in a team and above all how to work efficiently and effectively. I have a long way to go and it is only with God's blessings and my parents' constant encouragement and inspiration that will enable me to walk in the right path.

I am a person who abides by simplicity, who likes to lead a very simple life, loves to help others and hates the materialism of this world. I always want to get to know new people who apart from being intelligent, are also down-to-earth people with a humane nature.

During my spare time, I love to write poems, listen to music, do a bit of gardening and frequently escape to the mountains or seas far away from the hustle and bustle of this busy city. I love this "City of Joy" and its liveliness but its traffic snarls, waterlogging and humidity often get me down.

“It has been a long journey for me at mjunction. Having completed an MBA in HR, I joined in September 2003 as an associate who later got promoted/absorbed as an mjunction employee in April 2007. Soon after becoming a permanent member of the organization I was transferred to the EPS department.”

Prior to joining EPS, I was in the administration department of mjunction and I have seen the company grow over the years. I have always tried to give my best for any assignment given to me with complete sincerity. My tenure in the admin department had been a great learning experience and source of personal development. To start with I was given small admin assignments, like travel bookings, daily admin related issues from where I later started taking care of the entire non-IT related procurements, which helped me to understand the nitty-gritty of procurement and has also helped me to carry out my current role in the EPS department with greater efficiency. During my early days in the company I got a lot of help and guidance especially from Korak Saha, Ujjal da, Dipanjan da, Vinay Verma, Linus Lobo, Ranga Rao, Rima di, Amlan da, Binny Matthews, Bishwanath Dass, Tapas da, Sanjib Mukherjee, Kalyan da (Admin dept, Tata Ryerson) and our own MD.

Rima di and I started the project of enrolling ourselves for the Air fare savings with an RC that Tata Sons, Bombay had. I used to be in constant touch with Mr Feroze Mehta from Bombay house, who extended full cooperation to us. I am sure that the current admin team is receiving quarterly incentives from various airlines.

For someone like me, who loved to do travel bookings for all executives, making bookings for Binny Matthews was always a challenge. May be it was just his luck that car drivers missed him out invariably. The travel arrangements for Sanjit da, Linus, Ujjal da were probably the easiest and effortless.

Those were the days when we did not have to take an appointment to meet the MD. More often than not we would gate-crash into his room, to which he never complained and always gave a good hearing to each of our issues, irrespective of whether it was an associate or an employee.
My most important phase in the admin department was under the watchful eyes of Rajarshi Chattopadhyay, whom I lovingly call "BOSS or RC". He made me realise that I had much more in me than what I thought about myself. A number of initiatives were undertaken by the department during this period, some of which included travel control and savings on insurance. Thanks to RC, I got to play a crucial role in implementing these initiatives. The fact that he stood behind me and egged me on, encouraged me to move a step further and then again a step further. Of course, the constant support from Samrat, Surajit and Mousumi as also the cooperation received from Tata Steel admin executives with whom I still share an excellent rapport, has played a key role to make my stint in the admin department a successful one.
Presently, I am in the EPS BU, where I was given a warm welcome. The support provided by all my colleagues and superiors is helping me learn the art of procurement. It's great to be a part of the EPS BU, the Bells house MJ family and also to be seated, in that particular order.

We are now mjunction

Viresh Oberoi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, mjunction services limited

Over the years we have grown in every respect - services, people, reach, infrastructure and revenue. As we continue to grow and add value to the supply chains we serve, we have broadened our horizons beyond the world of steel and metals.

We thus felt that the time was ripe to give ourselves a new name, a new identity to reflect our metamorphosis. So we heralded the new year with a new brand name and logo, and we have become mjunction services limited from metaljunction services limited. Other business units under the mjunction umbrella continue to have identities of their own.

Though our name has changed, and our horizons widened, our values haven't. We will continue to bring greater efficiency, convenience and transparency to even more supply chains in the future with the innovative use of IT and the Internet.
