Featured Employee - Atin Banerjee

“For Atin Banerjee, his journey in mjunction beginning April 2003 has been both enriching and rewarding. With several role changes over this seven-year period, he has also had his moments of glory and pride.”

It all began in 2003, when Atin was looking for an opportunity in Kolkata after a long stint in Bangalore and Hyderabad with companies like Indian Rayon, NIIT & Globsyn Technologies Limited. mjunction, the then metaljunction.com, was a small family when Atin joined in April 2003, and was housed in the 10th & 11th floors of Tata Centre.

Atin clearly remembers his first assignment - to develop a billing system for payment for Tata Steel secondary products. It was a challenging assignment and rewarding at the same time as the same application still runs today with upgraded features.

Atin feels that being a member of core technology team was extremely enriching as it gave him the opportunity to work in close conjunction with all business units. Thus, he had the opportunity to be part of the overall growth process of mj. Among all assignments, Atin especially remembers developing the coaljunction auction engine. It was a challenging assignment which required working late into the night in order to meet client deadlines, but at the end it was all worth it as the client was satisfied.

Atin was also involved with several assignments in metaljunction and buyjunction auction systems, where they implemented the MVB auction, yankee auction, rank bidding, mass bidding system, mass-sms and mass- email systems. Each of these projects were new and customised to meet the needs of clients, and thus all of them satisfying in their own way.

For Atin, implementing EPS in SAIL was a big challenge. As part of the assignment, he got the opportunity to meet clients by travelling to all SAIL plants. This helped him to understand client needs better apart from just his technology work. He believes that the experience and knowledge that he gained during this process was immense and helped him in preparing for my future commitments. He is certain that in all his work thereafter, it helped him to have his fingers firmly on the pulse of the client.

Maybe the biggest recognition Atin received from the company happened in 2006, when that year he received the maximum number of "Rewards and Recognition" awards among all junctionites. He still cherishes that recognition, as he does the long service award that he received along with other junctionites who completed five years with mjunction. It was a special moment for Atin as he received the award onboard a cruise party that was arranged by the Fun Team of mjunction.

For Atin, every working moment and every fun event has been memorable. Peppered with sports, picnics, parties, monthly cake cutting events, there is inevitably something to look forward to at regular intervals.

Atin is presently with the Internal Audit Team. Here, being part of the Automation Knowledge Community and Management Information Security Forum teams, has helped Atin to acquire in-depth knowledge of all the business and functional units of mjunction and contribute towards upgrading automation, process re-engineering and financial controls. Being able to gel with people at all levels and understanding their business needs helped Atin to provide customised solutions, thereby creating value for the company.

Atin lives a 150-year-old house in Uttarpara, about 16 km from Kolkata. Though the house has had generation after generation making it their home, today it houses just a small family of Atin, his mother, his wife and his three-year-old son, Arka. After office, Atin, who has a quiet and unobtrusive personality, unwinds by spending time with Arka. Speaking of Arka, Atin says: "He goes to MCKV in Lilua and is passionate about cars."

Every evening, Arka waits for Atin to return home so that he can play with him, and it is through Arka that Atin relives his childhood.

A quintessential family man, a family holiday to Ooty early this year was a refreshing change from the mundane chores of life and enough to put Atin right back on the rails.

Over the years we have grown in every respect - services, people, reach, infrastructure and revenue. As we continue to grow and add value to the supply chains we serve, we have broadened our horizons beyond the world of steel and metals.

We thus felt that the time was ripe to give ourselves a new name, a new identity to reflect our metamorphosis. So we heralded the new year with a new brand name and logo, and we have become mjunction services limited from metaljunction services limited. Other business units under the mjunction umbrella continue to have identities of their own.

Though our name has changed, and our horizons widened, our values haven't. We will continue to bring greater efficiency, convenience and transparency to even more supply chains in the future with the innovative use of IT and the Internet.
