May 22, 2008: DB Power Ltd, an unlisted company belonging to media house Dainik Bhaskar Group, plans to set up three thermal power plants in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The units will have a total generation capacity of up to 2,690 MW.
The first two power plants will be set up in Chhattisgarh, having a capacity of 1,320 MW and 270 MW, respectively. The first plant is expected to be commissioned in 2011.
DB Power has already been allotted coal mines in Chhattisgarh having 100 million tons reserves.
The third plant will come up in Madhya Pradesh and will have a generation capacity of 1,100 MW. A fourth 270 MW unit, based on coal washery rejects and middling coal, will come at Korba in Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh plant is expected to be operational a year after the Chhattisgarh facility.
