JSL signs MoU with Orissa to set up 1320 MW power plant

May 7, 2010: Ratan Jindal led JSL Limited and the Orissa government signed a memorandum of understanding for establishment of 1320 MW Super Critical Thermal Power Plant (SCTPP) with an investment of Rs 7375 crore. The project would come up at Luni in Dhenkanal district.

The MoU was signed by state energy secretary Pradip Kumar Jena and JSL resident director Rajdeep Mohanty in the presence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
As per the MoU, the company would draw water from the Mahanadi river system.

Minister of state for energy Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said the state would avail around 158 to 185 MW from this project at variable cost. "Successful implementation of this project would immensely help the state in meeting is increasing power demand. The benefits of the project would be extended to the consumers so that they will get power cheaper rate," the minister said.
